Was it really worth it?$$$

In the book Lost in Place mark puts so much money towards his hobby which ended up being a failure since his family didn't actually approve of it, yet he really enjoyed it while he had the chance! Was there ever a time in your life where you spent basically all your money to get something which you couldn't keep or enjoy anymore because someone ruined it for you? Try to think of a situation like this or similar and comment! ( btw yes its extremely late at night i know! i told yall Walgreens Tsk tsk tsk)

  1. Well Ive never went through that but i do believe that me investing my money in Columbia could be a challenge... Will i complete my first semester? will i get good grades? Well i have a job in my career? and will it pay enough for me to make a living? This is a good question because you have to take out the time and think about whats best for you and you future. I just pray this is whats best for me!!!

  2. I played club volleyball since i was 8 years old. When it got very competitive and where we would travel and go to nationals it would be at least $5,000 a year. I was on the path of getting a full ride scholarship to Penn State for volleyball who has been the best team in the country for the last 5 years. When I was 16 I went to another team who I had always played against and the coach would always tell me to go to their club I would get more out of it. Little did i know my dad stopped paying my last club so i owed a lot of money. Also my dads attitude reflected on me and no one wanted to deal with my dad which meant no one wanted to deal with me. So after pretty spending half of my life playing and over like $20,000 it was ruined because my dad ruined it. That was the end of my club volleyball career.

  3. I'm trying to remember other things but I can only remember this one time that I pre-ordered Halo: Reach. I wanted the special edition and not the regular one. By the time, I got to Game Stop, they gave me the regular edition instead of the special edition that I wanted. I was so pissed that I threw the game at them and demanded the Special Edition because someone from their staff took the special edition. I refuse to take something else that I didn't pay for. I paid for the special edition, not the regular one. (I don't know if I'm on the same page as this though)

  4. I feel like i put so much time and effort and money into a bunch of things and then just lose interest all the time. like for example this just happened this year, but i have always been obsessed with working out but working out is not the example, the example is; with working out I have been on and off about staying as healthy as i can, and i bought into protein shakes and spent a lot of money into it but i have not been so good with it. I don't take it anymore. i took it for like a couple of weeks and now i have this big tub of protein mix sitting in my kitchen. but i have done a lot of things where i have got obsessed about, like the protein thing is just one example, but i think of something spend all my money into and then get bored. Off topic but if i had not done all that i feel like i would be like rich right now. but ya, i do this a lot.

  5. Well I've personally never been through something like this. But I do know the most money I will spend will be towards school. The thought of that much money I have to pay for my education is crazy to me. Being that I can't predict the future sucks. Owning that much money back you never know where you would end up. I would hate to get to college, spend all that money then for me to hate it and drop out. So when I graduate with that huge amount of money I'm going to owe back, I still feel great about the fact I finished college and got my degree.

  6. I was 16 when I got my first job and I wanted to document my life. So, I was saving all my checks so I could purchase a Nikon D80. Finally the time came when I had enough funds to make a trip to Best Buy and get me that DSLR (digital single-lens reflect camera) I've been wanting. I get it right....but after I get home to show my mom the beautiful object I just purchased all she that came out of her mouth was "now you have no money, you spent all of that on a single camera and you're broke because of it" Her comment got to me for some reason. I guess it's because I was 16 and still was going with what my mom said. Anyway...what happened is that she influenced me into returning it, switching it out for a cheaper one and of course one that's no up to par with the D80 :( mehhhhh

  7. @Britney I feel the same way. It sucks that Columbia is about to break my small fragile pockets. But hopefully the end result pays off for you.

  8. When I was younger I was on the tennis team. I went out and bought tennis skirts.balls, and a racket. We even had a choice on buying our uniform shirts of course I did.I only was in the sport for one year and I haven't picked up a tennis racket since. I could have stayed on the team but I had to choose between working or sports. :(

  9. The time I spent my money for nothing and ended up really mad, was when I brought an itouch. I am not an apple fan what so ever, i just dont like it, call me 'cray cray', but yea.. anyways I was so happy to get the itouch I saved like $350 for, so I ended getting it and used it. Then one day my cousin wanted to download some of my music into her ipod. Somehow she did it but it earsed my whole music library and I could not get it back. Then I connected my itouch and it earsed everything on there too! I couldnt believe I tried so many ways to get my music back but it wouldnt go on it went crazy. so I didnt want to deal with it anymore and I tried selling it but no one wanted it for its original price. Now its just sitting somewhere in my room hopefully crushed by my dresser or something.

  10. YES! when i went to community college i paid $800 out of pocket but the total was $1,200 for my tuition. after finalizing everything, me not knowing the college and how it works I took out a loan from the school to pay the rest AND the classes that i took only provided 2 credits each, and in order to get a loan you MUST be in at least 8 credit hours! i took the loan out started MY classES, I completely hated everything about my theatre/dance class and the curriculum that was being taught to me. I DROPPED THE CLASS. and i was only taking 8 credited hours so just enough to get the loan..so i get a letter in the mail that said I owe the college money for the loan or i can't conitnue my education at the institution..sad sad sad, i had to sell my beautiful car to pay the loan back in order to get my credits and complete at the school. so i paid it back. MORAL OF THE STORY.. know what your doing before you do it.

  11. When i was younger living in Florida with my grandparents, they would always give me money to buy new toys. Over time I had every single brand of toys from Lego's to Power Rangers! Every single chance i got with my money i would purchase a toy to add on to my collections. When i finally moved to Chicago with my mom she would give me money and every time i returned home i would have a new toy! She got highly upset and that because it was constant it became a problem. She finally made me throw away every single one of my toys that i had! That defiantly broke my addiction to having toys but i really loved to have them and i then realized all my money just got thrown out the window...

  13. There was this one day i had gone dress shopping for a wedding, and i clearly spent the rest of my check money in it. When i tried on the dress at the store it fit perfectly fine, so i bought it. On the day of the wedding, as i was getting ready, i put the dress on and it completely ripped.
I took the dress back to the store as soon as possible to see if they could exchange it for a new one. Unfortunately, they said that basically it was up to me now. So, i was screwed. I had no dress, I had no more money, and I did not know what to do at that point. I was so angry, i cried out of frustration.
I had to go back home and dig through my closet to see if i had clothes or something.
I literally went through my whole closet until i found this old dress from years ago and just wore that one.
I realized i did not have to spend that much money into some dress that i could have bought at some other store where i usually buy my dresses. UGH.
    Never again.

  14. @Black13Angel Yea that's crazy because every time when you pre order a specific game your suppose to get the perks with it and you ended up wasting your money then! they were suppose to refund it to you and you get it for free since they were out of stock and mailed it to you...paying extra $20 is a lot for a waste!

  17. @Marilyn- I'm sorry you had to experience that. Especially on a sacred day. But hey, at least you took it as a learning experience right? Now you know.

  19. @Brtiney & @Jodeci: We are all in the same struggle. Columbia is definitely a big risk and we definitely need to have a plan in how we're going to manage this.
